NEWS AND EVENTS

The Rector's Desk
Do not be anxious about anything, but in eery situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God (Philippians 4:6).

What an experience it was for most if not all of us last Sunday as our young people led us in worship during the Liturgy of the Word. We have quite a bit of hidden talent that needs to be encouraged and developed. We thank the young people and the adults who helped them. Again we apologize for "spoiling" the sunday worship of some members. We thank those who rearranged the worship space immediately after the service.

THE BOOK CORNER

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid
By Jeff Kenney

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is about Greg, a young boy, with an older brother, Rodrick and his best friend, Rowley Jefferson. His mother gives him a diary or a journal but only girls have journals and diaries and not boys like him. In this journal, he writes about a year in a school and his life which could relate easily to today's world. There are plenty of illustrations and the type is written on lines instead of just plain white paper.

The author has demystified the reading process as something other than an assignment or by force. Children appear to identify with Greg's life very easily regardless of their background. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is easy reading and works well with struggling readers as well. The author makes reading fun again without witchcraft or Vampires. Reality can be more frighting than the supernatural.

I highly recommend this book but I didn't like what happened to Rowley and Greg's friendship. I think the kook should have concluded and resolved it.
