Food For The Soul
"The wicked earn no real gain, but those who sow righteousness get a true reward."
Proverbs 11:18 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

 Sow Rightousness!

God's kingdom operates on a system of sowing and reaping. I know you have all heard the saying, "What goes around, comes around?" That's really a spiritual principle. What you sow, you will reap. Today's verse tells us that when we sow righteousness, we'll reap a true reward.

So, what does that mean? My friends, I submit to you that sowing righteousness means that we are simply doing the right thing in the sight of God. It means obeying God's word no matter what the circumstances may look like. It means showing kindness even when it's undeserved. It mens walking in love and keeping the peace when you really want to say or do something different.

Today, my friends, let's keep doing the right thing even if the wrong thing is happening. Sow righteousness. Stay in faith. Keep on believing and trusting that God is faithful, and there's a sure reward in store for you!

Blessings!
Rev. Tracy

ITEM OF INTEREST
I Wonder
This is an occasional column that answers questions about the Episcopal Church.

I wonder about the meanings of  terms related to the Episcopal Church.

Acolyte: From the Greek for "to follow"; a lay liturgical assistant (often but not necessarily a youth) who serves in such various roles as crucifer, torchbearer, bannerbearer, bookbearer, candlelighter, and server.

Altar: Table in the Chancel used for the celebration of the Holy Communion. It is the central furnishing of the worship space.
Ambo: Another (more historic) name for the pulpit, reading desk, or lectern.
Celebrant: The presiding cleric, whether bishop or priest, at the Eucharist, and by extension, at other sacramental rites, such as baptism.
Chancel:  Elevated area where the altar and, in some churches, pulpit/ambo are located.
Eucharist: From the Greek for "thanksgiving"; the name for the Holy communion. The sacrament of Word, bread, and wine (in which the two earthly elements constitute the body of our Lord) for which we give thanks, and through which we are nourished and strengthened in Christ's name and sustained in baptismal unity in him

THE BOOK CORNER
Before the Mayflower
by Lerone Bennett

This fills in many of the gaps left out by our sad over priced public school system. Schools make history boring to the ordinary thinker by making it a series of dates, places, and people. Bennett tells us stories about historical figures, the dates are secondary. This way you will become invested in the people who lived in our past so that we can live now. African people in the United States have accomplished wonderful achievements. After reading Before the mayflower, you may ask what is wrong with the modern African-American.
