COMEDY CORNER

Jesus, Moses, and an elderly man were playing golf. Moses steps up to the tee and hits the ball. It goes sailing over the fairway and lands in the water trap. So Moses parts the water and chips onto the green.

Jesus steps up to the tee and hits the ball. It too goes sailing over the fairway and lands in the water trap. Jesus just walks on the water and chips the ball onto the tee.

Next, the old man steps up to the tee and hits the ball. It goes sailing over the fairway and heads for the water trap. But just before it lands in the water a fish jumps up and catches the ball in its mouth, then an eagle swoops down and grabs the fish in  its claws. The eagle flies over the green and is hit by a sudden bolt of lightning, dropping the fish. When the fish hits the ground, the ball pops out of its mouth and rolls in for a hole in one.

Jesus then turns to the old man and says, "Dad, if you don't stop showing off we won't bring you next time!"

BOOK CORNER
The Queen of the Night
by Alexander Chee

Being a trained classical singer who knows a great deal about the world of opera during the period in which this book takes place, I grabbed it as soon as I saw the TIMES review and found it fascinating. I am not sure, however, how much it would interest the general reader of historical fiction novels. The historical detail is exquisite, but the lengthy section in the middle about the Paris Commune needed tightening up (it detracted from the main thrust and mood of the plot) and the last few paragraphs were confusing, That being said, for anyone passionate about opera it is a must read.

Food For The Soul
"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers..." (1 Peter 4:8, NIV)
So often, people try to make others fit into their own mold, conform to their ideas, and be just like them. We think, "If they would just change, then they wouldn't get on my nerves." But really, we need to give people room to be who god created them to be. Life is too short spend it trying to fix somebody, my friends.

Yes, we should encourage people and help them grow in their knowledge and love of God. But at some point we have to step back and say, "All right, this is who God made them to be, and I'm going to accept them the way they are.

My friends, we have to choose love every day because love covers over our differences and offenses. Love is what allows us to appreciate what others bring into our lives, and it brings us together in unity.

Today, above all, choose love. Choose to focus on the things that make your relationship stronger because in the end, love is all that remains.

"Lord, today I choose to set my heart and mind on you. I choose to love others the way you command. Give me the strength to walk in your ways and understand your love more each day in Jesus' name. Amen."

Blessings  All!
Rev. Tracy
