DIOCESE AND ITEMS OF INTEREST

I Wonder Why?
This column answers interesting questions.

Ever wonder why Morning Prayer is used in the context of the Eucharist?

"Although the value and importance of the 1979 prayer books restoration of the celebration of the Eucharist to its place on Sunday mornings can hardly be questioned, one of the consequences of this shift has been the loss of Morning Prayer in the life of many congregations. One solution for congregations is to use Morning Prayer as Liturgy of the Word prior to Holy Communion. Many congregations today find this practice of using Morning Prayer in the context of the Eucharist is one way of offering Episcopalians the best of both worlds; the beauty and substance of the canticles, lessons, psalms, and prayers of Morning Prayer as well as the solid and ancient tradition of celebrating the Eucharist every Sunday."
