Thought for the Month
There is UNITY in COMMUNITY; there must be COMMUNICATION in COMMUNITY and there must be COLLABORATION in COMMUNITY. Wake up people.

Fr. Davidson
Fr. Davidson is on vacation and will be back in office on September 16, 2010. Please remember that the Senior Warden is to be contacted in case of any emergencies.

Upcoming Events
1. Saturday, September 18th: Strategic Planning Meeting. This is a meeting of heads of all committees and organizations to plan for the year ahead and to prepare a calendar of events.

2. Saturday, September 25th: Bishop's Conference on Stewardship. It will be held at
St. James's, West Hartford. The starting time is 9 a.m. and The Rev. Canon Charles LaFond will be the Conference Leader. A $20 donation is expected, which included lunch. Anyone interested in knowing more about Stewardship can attend but we hope members of the Stewardship Committee will attend.

3. September 25th: Cathedral Quiet Day. This will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, which is located on the Corner of Church and Main Street. Validated parking is available in the Hartford Stage Garage. The Quite Day will begin at 10:00 a.m. Brother James Michael Dowd of the Holy Cross Monastery in New York will lead meditation, prayer and silence. These will offer strength for our walk of faith. Brother James is Director of Outreach and Peace ministries, which spearheads the monastery's work with the poor and infirm in the Hudson Valley. He has been a member of the community since 2006. A Eucharist will close the day at 13:30 p.m. and will be followed by a simple lunch at 1:00 p.m. Those attending will have the opportunity to make sandwiches for the Saturday afternoon food ministry that takes place in Bushnell Park, Hartford every week for the homeless and others who need food. 4. Sunday, October 3rd: Homecoming. It is our hope that we will be able to share with you our plans for 2011 along with a calendar of events.

St. Monica's 37th Annual Harvest Festival
We celebrated our Harvest Festival on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

The Rev. Charles Davidson, Rector said the opening prayer.

Mrs. Olive James, chairperson, made the opening remarks and she was followed by Ms. Carol Anderson who was Mistress of Ceremonies.

Miss Cynthia & Kaye Paddyfote read Psalm 100. Miss Javanna Elliott read Mark:26-32.

Master Cameron Jones made and instrumental offering and Mr. Raymond Brown, Mrs. Sandra Edwards and Ms. Jessica Hurdle were receivers.

Ms. Aaliyah Miller read a poem.
Musical offerings were made by
The St. Monica's Church Youth Choir,
Mr. Stephen Wilson, Choral Club of Hartford, Mrs. Joyce Aseidu, North United Methodist Church Men's Choir, and St. Monica's Gospel Choir.

The guest speaker was The Rev. Winsome Dariah. The Rev. Dariah was introduced by Mrs. Evelyn Rhule.

Mr. Walter Benjamin, Senior Warden, recognizes clergy and visitors and he presented gifts from Church Organizations.

Mrs. Olive James made announcements and gave a vote of thanks.
The Rev. Davidson blessed the offering and made the closing prayer and blessing.

St. Monica's 106th Anniversary & Recognition Ball
This was a fundraiser to help retire the debt on our building. It was held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Hilton Hotel located at 315 Trumbull Street, Hartford. Ticket were $75 per person. Cocktails were 7:00 p.m.-8: p.m. Dinner, program and dancing were 8:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. For ticket information was provided by Ms. Synfoni Green, Mrs. Arlette Hurdle, Mrs. Gloria Marsele, or Mrs. Paul Scott.
There was a $5.00 parking fee for the night. Individuals were encouraged to car pool. All had to park on the Hilton side of the parking lot.
