Words We Hear In Church
The Bulletin of Sunday, March 4,2012 listed several interesting words that we hear in church. In case you missed them they are listed as follows:

Rubrics are ritual or ceremonial directions printed at the beginning of the service book (Book of Common Prayer) or in the course of the text (silent may be kept). In medieval times the words were written in red (Latin ruber); today they are written in italics. We who are ordained must pay attention to the rubrics at all times. Readers please pay attention to the rubrics before and after the readings. Thanks in advance.

Intinction is the practice of dipping the consecrated bread into consecrated or unconsecrated wine. So that the sick can consume the wafer/bread, it was dipped into unconsecrated wine. today some understand it, wrongly, as an opportunity to avoid drinking after others. Do you know that the priest has to consume all of the wine that is left?

Communion. Acts 2:46 refer to the early followers of Christ 'breaking bread' daily. In Acts 20:7 we have reference of meeting on the first day of the week to 'break bread.' Wouldn't it be nice for us to have communion daily?

Genuflexion is a momentary kneeling on the right knee with the body erect as a ceremonial reference when passing the Blessed Sacrament or before the unveiled cross on Good Friday. Kneeling to receive communion shows respect for the exposed 'blessed sacrament.' Of course standing is permitted.
