THE BOOK CORNER

Watership Down
by Richard Adams

It seem superfluous to add another five star review for Watership Down, but this book deserves this and more. I was enthralled by this unlikely but iconic story about rabbits. Pure genius. Yes, it is about communities of rabbits living on the downs of England. Yes, they speak to each other and deal with a myriad of problems surviving, including all-out war with another warren. It's not like anything else you could probably ever read. A father wrote it for his two young daughters and thank God they asked him to. He created, not just rabbits, but full-out wonderful characters, a beautiful and thrilling story and a poignant adventure from beginning to the very end. I absolutely loved it. You just can't imagine how wonderful it is. Many people have to be prodded and coerced to read it and then they immediately go off to rave about it to other dubious folks... converts.
