The New Revised Standard Version (1989)
This is the version of the Bible most often read in Episcopal Churches. It is a version of the Revised Standard Version, which continued the tradition of the King James Version. The translators had two objects in mind. First, to bring the latest information from scholars to their work so that their translation is accurate and faithful to the original text; and, second, to use more inclusive language to make the reading more accessible to everyone. Thus, when the word "men" is used in the text to refer to men and women, this translation uses a more inclusive term, like "people"or "humankind." When people are addressed as "brothers" this translation usually renders the phrase as "brothers and sisters." Because it was written with the traditions of the King James Version in mind, it reads aloud well, and that, as well as the inclusive language, accounts for its use in many churches.
